Mid-Autumn Festival is the 2nd largest festival after the Chinese New Year. It’s called the “Moon Festival” because at this time of the year, the moon is at its roundest and brightest. Its name comes from the fact that it is always celebrated in the middle of the autumn season.

The date for the Mid-Autumn Festival changes each year, determined by the Chinese lunar calendar. It falls in September or early October on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month - a "full moon day“. In 2025, the Holiday will be celebrated on October 6th.

The Jade Rabbit (or Moon Rabbit, 玉兔 yùtù in Chinese) is one of the most famous figures connected with the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese moon mythology. Its association comes from a blend of folklore, Daoist traditions, and Buddhist symbolism. The Jade Rabbit represents companionship, selflessness, health, and immortality, making it a beloved symbol of the Mid-Autumn Festival alongside Chang’e, the Moon Goddess, and the full moon.
